                                                                                         AUTOMATIC SPEED LIMITER

                                                                    Motivation:
A certain speed limit is often fixed for the campus of universities/other govt. institutions which however is rarely followed. Breaking those speed restrictions causes fatal accidents.
for example: - In a recent accident in the campus in which HABIB HALL’s employee died (see newspaper cutting below), VC’s accident on 13 Aug 2013 and many others that happened. Our idea automatically places an upper limit over the speed of a vehicle entering the campus, hence checking rash driving.

                                                                                                                     IDEA:

Electromagnetic emitters will be placed at all the entrances of thecampus. Once a vehicle enters it will receive these signals which will restrict the air flow to a maximum through the butterfly valve corresponding to the speed limit. This we plan to do by placing a simple butterfly valve (additional pipe length) between the filter and throttle body (main butterfly valve) which will at normal times be allowing all the air entering the filter, however on encountering EM waves it will orient itself (with the help of two permanent small magnetic pins which will get into the valve on receiving e-m waves) such that air corresponding to speed limit will only pass. Thus the driver can not exceed the speed limit within the campus. When the vehicle reaches the exit it will receive another set of e-m waves which will outdo the mechanical changes and thereon vehicle can be driven as usual.

                                                        IMPLEMENTATION:

In the very first phase we wish to implement it in the premises of Aligarh Muslim University.
The idea can further be used at places where some speed limit is imposed like roads around schools, railway crossings, and other governmental establishments. The idea if implemented successfully will put a bar over the
casualties arising out of rash driving within the campus and thus Protect students of unnecessry hardships faced due to casualties sustained in such accidents.

                                                                BENEFITS:

This augments VC’s vision (point 4) in which he puts primary focus on students. This offcourse includes their safety. Since the idea with our proposed design has never been used before, it will be a yet another feather in the cap of zhcet as far as innovation is concerned. This will further elevate our position in
the country supporting the VC’s vision (point no 3). Any such project definitely helps students like us to interact in a more meaningful way and hence boosts the level of team spirit, self-confidence within the team members. It further sets an example infront of other students in the college of amazing results a devoted team can bear. This is again in accordance to VC vision (point no 10).

                                                          FUTURE VISIONS:

 1) Restricting honking in “NO HONK” areas.
 2) Using ‘variable speed’ limiters i.e. speed limitation can be varied according to the allowable speed a different places.
